Crane Hire Options

CPA Crane Hire

This option is for people who are competent and experienced with the use of mobile cranes.

We have a duty to provide the hirer with a trained and competent operator along with a crane that is properly maintained, tested and certificated.

Summary: The Hirer Is responsible for the safe operation of the crane and the safety and welfare of our operator.

The hirers responsibilities are as follows:

  • All work must be carried out in accordance with BS 7121 and LOLER regulations.
  • Hirer must provide a competent Appointed Person who has the not only the knowledge but experience and understanding of all aspects of the lifting operation in hand.
  • Plan the lift and operate a safe system of work.
  • Provide a qualified and competent Slinger/Signaller and Crane Supervisor.
  • Provide all Method Statements, Risk Assessments and Lifting Plan.
  • Ensure that the crane hired is of a suitable type & capacity.
  • Check the credentials of the crane hire company and certification supplied.

Over and above, the customer must also ensure that adequate insurance cover for the lifting operation including loss or damage to loads being lifted and loss or damage to the crane and lost revenue. Under standard CPA terms, the customer must provide the following insurance cover:

  • Loss of, or damage to, our plant whilst on site.
  • Loss of, or damage to, the goods being lifted.
  • Continuing hire charges whilst the plant is ‘off the road’ for repairs as a result of loss or damage
  • Public liability, injury to operator, injury to other parties, including their property, arising from the crane operations.

In the event that the hirer does not have adequate insurance we can waive these insurance requirements subject to an increase in the hire rate. Contact us to find out more.

Please note: The hirer retains the responsibility for their own acts of negligence.

CPA Contract Lift

This option is for customers who do not have the adequate personnel nor are they familiar with the use of mobile cranes.

The hirer still retains certain liabilities and therefore should hold adequate insurance to provide protection against incidents arising from for example:

  • Own negligence
  • Inadequate or unstable ground conditions
  • Inadequate or incorrect information with regards to the goods being lifted. i.e incorrect weight.

Summary: Johnston Rigging are responsible for the crane, equipment, operator and all personnel supplied with the crane.

The crane owner (Johnston Rigging Fife) responsibilities are as follows:

  • Carry out all work in accordance with BS 7121 and LOLER regulations.
  • Provide a competent Appointed Person who has the knowledge, experience and
understanding of all aspects of the lifting operation.
  • Provide a qualified and competent Slinger/Signaller.
  • Plan the lift and operate a safe system of work.
  • Provide all Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
  • Ensure that the crane supplied is of a suitable type and capacity.
  • Provide a crane that is properly maintained, tested and certificated.
  • Provide a trained and competent operator.

In addition, the following insurance cover will be provided:

  • Loss of, or damage to plant or to other property caused solely by JRF Ltd negligence in the performance of the lifting contract subject to:
  • A maximum liability of £25,000 in respect of the value of goods lifted. (This limit an be increased on request, please contact us to find out more)
  • A maximum liability of £5 million in respect of loss of or damage to third party property or death/ injury to third party persons.
